| After learning new ideas and tips, how do you improve your skills? Practice, practice and practice is the answer. The more models a person builds the more improvement can be expected. Better model building will result from improved skills. A builder’s skills will develop with each model they build. Tips and tricks used will be enhanced and in the end will add to the knowledge base of the builder.
One very important ingredient to better model building is the plans or the model kit used to build the model. This is the base or foundation for better model building. Excellent plans and model kits can be found in two obvious places, which are your local model shop and the Internet. Both places will give you a number of choices and types of models to pick from. In both cases you may find specials being offered so you can save money on the models picked.
When talking with model club members, be sure to ask where they get their ideas and kits. Ask why they chose the models they have built. The more ideas you get from this group, the better models you will build. Ask your local shop owner the same question, for the same reason.
When you have completed building a fine model, remember it needs to be painted. This final step is tricky and can make the difference between a great looking model and a so-so model. Spray painting will give a finer finish than hand painting. This presents a small problem as spray painting takes a little while to learn how to do correctly. Hand painting is easier, but it does not look as good as a well-done spray paint job. The finished model will look like it is flying sitting still.
Patience is as important as skill. Skill when hurried lacks quality. Be patient when finishing the model. This will help to bring a better model to life. The fun of model building is to build a model that is visually pleasing as well as one that flies well. Strive for the best. It is worth the effort in fine model building.
